2026 Overseas Player: Shakeem Boyce

North East Cheshire Cricket Club - via a partnership with the Barbados Cricket Association - is delighted to welcome Shakeem Boyce on an overseas player scholarship for the 2026 UK season.

Boyce first rose to prominence as a schoolboy, selected for the Barbados Cricket Association Centre of Excellence Program between 2012 and 2017 and earning representative honours for the island at junior level.

He plays his club cricket for Isolation Cavaliers at the picturesque KMV Oval in Saint Andrew, deployed primarily as a middle-order aggressor and strike bowler.

There was also success at the top of the order in the shorter format, lighting up the BCA Twenty20 Cup with a pair of rapid half-centuries in the group phase.

Shakeem also boasts prior UK experience with successful stints in Kent (2022) and Wiltshire (2024) under his belt.

We look forward to welcoming Shakeem to the club in April.

Jake Oakes Joins the Jets

The Club welcomes Jake Oakes to the Jets family for the upcoming 2025 season after his relocation to the north-west.

Born profoundly deaf, Jake is an England Deaf international who has also excelled in the recently formed Disability Premier League which combines cricketers from three different disability groups – physical disability (PD), learning disability (LD) and hearing impairment/deaf.

In the 2023 DPL final held at Derbyshire’s County Ground he plundered 32 runs from the final over of his side’s innings, clearing the ropes five times on his way to an unbeaten 39* from just 10 deliveries faced.

Having already seen his skills in action in preseason indoor training we look forward to seeing the contribution Jake can make in Jets colours this summer.

2025 Overseas Player: Bailey Jenkinson

The Jets are delighted to confirm the signing of Australian Bailey Jenkinson as the Club’s 2025 overseas player.

Bailey boasts an exceptional record in country cricket, twice voted into the Warrnambool District Cricket Association Team of the Season and awarded the association’s Best U21 Player medal in 2021.

Senior rep cricket honours inevitably followed and he has been equally successful with bests of 77* with the bat and 5-17 with the ball in WDCA colours.

In the 23/24 season Bailey made a career-best for North Warrnambool when he carried his bat in a one day outing for an immaculate unbeaten 145* from 139 deliveries, striking nineteen fours and one maximum.

As a standout junior player, Jenkinson represented Victoria Country at the U15 and U17 Australian National Championships before Covid saw the U19 event cancelled.

We look forward to welcoming Bailey to the club in April and wish him the best of luck for the remainder of the Australian season in both North Warrnambool and WDCA colours.

Her Game Too

North East Cheshire Cricket Club has become the first cricket club in the county to show its support for the Her Game Too campaign which aims to raise awareness of sexism, misogyny and gender inequality in sport and educate others on the importance of inclusivity and diversity.

Initially created by female football fans, the campaign has spread to other sports, including cricket.
As a grassroots ambassador club, we will continue to promote cricket as being an inclusive game for all, whether that is playing or watching.

When NECCC was formed, women’s cricket was introduced to the club thus expanding the available playing opportunities to the local community.

Our women and girls are always welcome to train and play with their male peers in all our junior and senior teams but we’re aware this is not what everyone wants.

Our approach to cricket is to have fun whilst we play.

Heather Mukherjee, NECCC’s Women’s Lead said: “As a club, we feel the partnership with Her Game Too is a very positive move that sends out a clear message that women and girls are very welcome at our club.

Club Chair, Damien Mullany, added: “North East Cheshire CC is delighted to partner with Her Game Too Cricket.

Becky Scholes (Women’s XI Vice Captain) commented that, “It’s important that women and girls get the opportunity to explore a fantastic sport like cricket.

Dave Dawkins (U11 Coach) said, “A quarter of our membership are female and we are committed to increasing his number.

Lucy Ford, Director and Co-Founder of Her Game Too, said: “We are delighted to announce our newest grassroots partnership with North East Cheshire CC.

As we go through the season, we’ll share more information about our women and girls along with the Her Game Too campaign.

Women’s cricket is growing rapidly across the country and Cheshire has one of the strongest grassroots set ups.

NECCC has both women’s hardball and softball cricket teams to cater for a wide range of players’ interests.

As well as playing with the boys, we have several all girls teams that enjoy the opportunities to play together against other girls.

Where would a club be without its volunteers giving up their time to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Coaches

In 2023, the club had three female ECB qualified coaches and we’re doubling that for 2024.

Exec/Committee Roles

Several key roles are held by women at the club: Club Secretary, Fixture Secretary, Membership Secretary, Junior Membership Secretary, Safeguarding Officers (x2), Women’s Lead - not to mention our women’s teams’ captains and vice-captains.

2024

As we continue to grow our women & girls’ section, we’re moving to a dedicated night of training for our female players on Mondays with girls’ training preceding the women’s session.

We continue to enter hard & softball teams in the Cheshire Women’s Cricket League set up - both for the girls and the women - as we know that some players are happy with one particular format over the other.
New for 2024, we’re looking to partner with the “Her Game Too” campaign to promote cricket as a sport for all.

To get involved or to find out more, email us at women@neccc.

Women & Girls Compete in First Hard Ball Fixture

The Jets Women’s XI ventured into the Peak District to Buxton CC, taking to the field for the club’s first ever hardball cricket game in the CWCL set up.

Buxton won the toss and put the Jets into bat.

After a great start to the second innings from the pace of Scholes (0-13), the first Buxton wicket fell to a catch by keeper, Kate Avery-Lofthouse off Mukherjee’s (1-11) bowling.

Unfortunately, the team wasn’t able to contain Buxton long enough to stop them reaching the target however, team spirit was high and everyone played a part.

2023 Overseas Player: Jayden Camp

<p style="line-height:1.

Jayden is an emerging talent who has showcased the all-round game to bat in a range of positions across the top and middle order and will now look to further his game by spending the UK summer with the Jets.

Since returning from an injury that caused him to miss the entire 2019/20 season, Jayden has been part of two Grand Final victories for the Rangers as well as appearing regularly in a strong Poidevin-Gray Shield (U21) side alongside several Australia U19 internationals.

Jayden will also be a visible presence across all club activity, particularly with junior training where he is a qualified coach involved with Northern District’s Green Shield (U16) side.

Two Titles and Three Promotions on Final Weekend

<p style="line-height:1.

Winnington Park v 1stXI

After an intense season, a dead rubber tie at Winnington Park saw the 1stXI presented with the Division 3 championship shield at the tea interval.

Saul Gould was bizarrely stumped, Will Westerby trod on his stumps, and, in an entertaining late burst, Will Ritchie (26) was bowled from the fifth ball of a Jackson (4-60) over in which he had hit the first four deliveries into the pavilion and was targeting the full 36.

The regular bowlers did keep things tight early doors, but a bad drop of home skipper Butcher (36) before he had scored helped support a fifty opening stand.

2ndXI v Trafford MV

Needing a win of any magnitude to confirm promotion as champions, the 2ndXI did the business in a low-scoring affair at London Road to have the title sewn up by mid-afternoon.

The second innings then appeared to be a formality but developed a needless edge as Matt Mullany was dismissed via mankad without warning.

Glazebury v 3rdXI

With the ones title already in the bag and the twos unlikely to slip up, most attention on Saturday focused on the 3rdXI.

Three quick wickets up top for Luke Johnson (3-15) then made the 15pts a formality.

1stXI are League Champions

<p style="line-height:1.

<h3 style="line-height: 1.

An epic stand between Jake Reynolds (68*) and James Banner (23*) saw them bat almost 29 overs together to deny second-place Maritime the win that would have extended the title race to the final weekend.

The skipper won a crucial toss after heavy rain throughout the week and inserted a powerful Maritime batting lineup that thrives on chasing but has only won two games batting first.

With four points banked from the first innings the Jets response was then a muddle.

Appleton v 2ndXI

The 2ndXI suffered a maddening abandonment against bottom-of-the-table Appleton, one of only two games which didn’t take place across the entire Cheshire integrated league structure.

3rdXI v Warrington

There’s also an exciting finish in store for the 3rdXI whose crushing maximum-point win over Warrington at Jackson’s Edge means that they need just a two-point swing on the final day to edge out Urmston for runners-up and promotion to Division B.

With runs on the board, visiting Warrington then fell to a masterclass of wrist spin from Ben Holbrook who delved deep into his bag of tricks to claim a brilliant 6-25.

Didsbury v 4thXI

The fours ended their season in the battle of the hangovers as two clubs met on the back of their Saturday celebrations.

The reply never got going though and means that despite an unbeaten start to the season the fours finish in a logjam of teams tied for a distant second in the table.

Promotion Confirmed for 1st and 2ndXI

<p style="line-height:1.

Barrow v 1stXI

A sixteenth league win of the campaign – combined with favourable results elsewhere – confirmed promotion for the 1stXI with two weeks to spare.

His eventual dismissal to a calamitous runout sparked wild celebration in the visiting ranks from which the Jets soon regained their composure to boss the remainder of proceedings.

A second-wicket stand of 63 between Chester Bowden and Andrew Clarke weathered the early storm using a mixture of bat and body to repel the quicks.

2ndXI v Offerton

The twos had found out late in the week that they had also gained promotion after the delayed entry of the final result from Div B last weekend went in their favour.

Runs on the board is definitely the way forward with a new scoring system which is a work in progress and will surely change next season.

3rdXI v Styal

Despite dominant wins for the ones and twos, perhaps the most pleasing result of the day arrived at Jackson’s Edge where there was a tense one-wicket win for the 3rdXI over bogey side Styal.

In the first innings CT had impressed in his more accustomed role with the ball, his 2-17 leading a balanced seven-man attack that shared the wickets around.

4thXI v Cheadle

The fours' home game with Cheadle was switched to Kingsway and the Jets took some measure of revenge for a heavy defeat when the sides met previously.

Wickets then fell consistently in reply but the key scalp of Kevin Moss eluded the Jets for long periods and kept Cheadle well in the game.

1stXI Back to Winning Ways

<p style="line-height:1.

<h3 style="line-height: 1.

Bank Holiday availability saw the 1stXI and Ashley lock horns at London Road with both teams short of full strength.

It set the tone for the innings as a relentless seam barrage from a five-man attack offered no letup in intensity.

The Jets shuffled the pack in response with a much-changed batting order, but this initially failed to have the desired impact as they fell to 15-3 against the spin of Khan (3-46).

Europa Exiles v 2ndXI

Despite claiming victory away to Europa Exiles, the 2ndXI saw their lead at the top of Division B cut to 4 points as a late smattering of wickets in the run chase reduced their margin of victory.

Earlier, the twos had bounced back well from a poor start as the hosts added a fifty stand for the opening wicket.

Lindow v 3rdXI

Lindow conceded

4thXI v Ashley

Didsbury played host to Twenty20 finals day on Sunday with the 4thXI in action in the second semi-final against Ashley.

The North East innings then took on the opposite complexion as they enjoyed the fielding restrictions to race to 52-0 and get the required rate down to a manageable 5.

Twos Return to the Top of the Table

<p style="line-height:1.

<h3 style="line-height: 1.

A week is a long time in sport as the 1stXI found to their cost after the long trip to Tattenhall.

Bowling to the rest of the home lineup proved more fruitful, Dave Oldfield’s 4-43 the pick as only three other batters reached double figures with Okell’s 21 the next highest score.

The set batters never kicked on though, typical of a frustrating afternoon where seven of the lineup made double figures but nobody was able to compile a match-defining score.

2ndXI v Langley

There was better news for the second string as they made light work of Langley at London Road, taking some measure of revenge against the side who knocked them out of the Twenty20 Cup.

LJ (2-22) then swapped bat for ball to take out both openers, setting the tone for a ruthless display in the field.

3rdXI v Bowdon Vale

It was 3rd v 4th on Jackson’s Edge as the 3rdXI played host to Bowdon Vale in a surprisingly one-sided encounter.

The second innings was then the Andy Welsby show as the skipper struck a first career half-century.

4thXI v Brooklands

The 4thXI’s second-half wobble continued with a loss at home to Brooklands.

Brooklands went about their task with minimal fuss, a second-wicket stand of 75 helping to lay the foundations of a successful chase.

1st and 2ndXI Topple Hawk Green

<p style="line-height:1.

<h3 style="line-height: 1.

Saturday saw the 1stXI host Hawk Green in a fixture that had been circled on the calendar for some time.

Better was to come as the home side slowly established some control, and they won the opening stages by removing a dangerous Hawk Green top order.

Stands of 85 and 62 for the only two wickets to fall were just what the doctor ordered as the openers weathered an early pace burst before cashing in against the change bowling.

Hawk Green v 2ndXI

The reverse fixture also saw the Jets in the field, this time at the behest of their opponents.

Matt Mullany continued his relentless charge towards 1,000 runs for the summer with 46 from the top of the order, eventually third man out with the score on 94.

3rdXI v Cheadle Hulme

Another Saturday full-house was confirmed with the news that the 3rdXI had won a tight game away to Cheadle Hulme with Ben Cole completing a fine individual performance.

At 68-6 they were staring down the barrel of a heavy loss with Ed Parkinson managing to be run out without having a ball amidst the carnage.

Ashley v 4thXI

Ashley denied the Jets four out of four across the weekend but it was still a great game of Sunday cricket as the hosts chased down the Jets’ 199 all out to win by 4 wickets.

They managed just that as, unlike the Jets, they found a match-winning contribution in Jim Doyle’s unbeaten 58*.

Saul Gould Hits 96 as 1stXI Defeat Oakmere

<p style="line-height:1.

<h3 style="line-height: 1.

A hard-earned 25pts was the Jets reward from their trip to Oakmere where Saul Gould formed the backbone of the 1stXI’s innings.

Oakmere found some greater control in the second half with the spin of Hodgkinson (3-48) and Guest (4-59) pegging the Jets back enough to prevent posting a score in excess of 200.

Carson (2-25) exacted some measure of revenge by quickly removing both Oakmere openers, the second well caught by stand-in keeper Sam Scragg.

2ndXI v Woodford

The 2ndXI opened up a gap to third-place Timperley with a comfortable home win over neighbours Woodford.

This scoreboard pressure helped yield an incredible four run-outs in the second innings to aid the Jets cause.

3rdXI v Rostherne

Owen Johnson struck his second unbeaten century of the season as the 3rdXI poured on the runs against visitors Rostherne at Jackson’s Edge.

The second innings also contained a remarkable individual effort, Rostherne’s Alex Etherington hitting 82* not out despite none of his teammates making it into double figures around him.

4thXI v Bramhall

With several key players called up for 1stXI cup duty, the 4thXI fell to a heavy home defeat against Bramhall on Sunday.

The visitors were in equally ruthless form with the bat, quickly completing the formalities after the tea break.

1stXI v Romiley

A tough task away to the highest ranked side left in the Cheshire Shield proved too much for the 1stXI on Sunday as they were easily second best at Romiley.

There were positives on the bowling front as Ed Parkinson claimed 2-22 on 1stXI debut, including a classical off-spinners dismissal to castle opener Roberts through the gate for 49.

The Romiley attack found the perfect lines and lengths to exploit an increasing lack of bounce, scuttling through the Jets lineup with seven bowled and an LBW as many played on or were undone by instinctively looking to play off the back foot.

Girls Cricket End of Season Summary

<p style="line-height:1.

The season started with the girls winning the U13 tournament at Chester Boughton Hall.

What really stands out about the girls is their team spirit, they are a tough team to play not just because of their cricketing skills, but it’s obvious to our opponents that our girls are a team, and greater than the sum of their parts.
