Guidance as per the new COVID-19 Recovery Strategy

Guidance as per the new COVID-19 Recovery Strategy
14 May 2020

On behalf of the club committee, I sincerely hope that you and your family are as well as can be in these unprecedented times and I wish to convey our very best wishes to you all.

We approached the 2020 season full of optimism so it has been frustrating not to get it started as planned: our ‘Mini Jets’ launch for our youngest members will wait; Friday nights are certainly quiet without our junior sessions; and our senior teams had been looking forward to their second season as NECCC with players having grown to know each other well over the past year.

As you will be aware, Wednesday 13 May saw changes to the government’s recent COVID-19 restrictions around some sporting activities. Unfortunately, these changes do not currently apply to cricket.

At North East Cheshire CC (inc. Poynton Junior CC), we continue to follow ECB guidelines which state… “all forms of recreational cricket (including matches and practice) remain suspended.” Whilst we realise that many of you are eager to play cricket this summer, we need to wait until the advice is favourable and we have the appropriate safety measures in place to do so.

At this time, both our grounds remain fully closed to all sporting activity but it is likely that they will be looking at the option to reopen their tennis courts only at this stage. We will keep up to date with any developments at the grounds but at this time, please continue to stay away.

We have been asked by several players if the nets are available and the answer is no. These remain closed and will only be opened when ECB guidance says we can; the sites are safe and ready; and we have created a new system to ensure minimum contact.

The committee continues to work behind the scenes to stay briefed with all developments whilst monitoring finances and ground preparation. We will keep you updated as to any changes but in the meantime, we thank you for your patience and co-operation in keeping way from the grounds.

Stay safe.

Chairman
