Women's Cricket

Mission Statement

To introduce cricket to a wider audience by promoting cricket for women and girls across the area. To provide a fun and welcoming environment in which women and girls can learn the game of cricket, build on this knowledge, and develop the skills needed to reach their full potential.

How we began

From a chat between friends during the summer of 2018, the concept of bringing ladies’ cricket back to Poynton was born. Inspired by the ECB’s “Soft Ball “Prosecco” Cricket Festivals”, it was decided that this format would be an excellent starting point.

As the 2018 season drew to its close, around 30 women and girls had signed up and took their first steps into the cricketing world, nervously picking up a bat and learning that “soft balls” aren’t that soft. Training throughout the winter honed newly acquired skills and our ladies stepped out onto the field in summer 2019 ready for their first season under the banner of the new club.

In 2023 we took the next step to enter a hard ball cricket team into the Cheshire Women’s Cricket League structure.

What’s next?

2024 sees our women venture into their fifth season in a relaxed, competitive environment. The focus remains on making cricket fun through training sessions and matches.

Soft ball cricket: We have always felt that soft ball cricket fixtures are a great introduction to competitive cricket and continue to play in Cheshire’s women’s soft ball cricket league. We also continue to enter “Proscecco Festivals” whenever we can.

Hard ball cricket: Our first season of hard ball cricket focused on teamwork and the continued development of our players within the more traditional format of cricket. For 2024, we made the decision to remain in Div 4 to consolidate on everything we learned in our first season as we grow as a team.
